Jalan jalan: a story of waiting
Waiting for the perfect time to do [insert anything] is still waiting
This where I’m supposed to tell you a story.
It’d go like this. Insert [time, place, day] that I knew I had to write a Substack. Describe the day I opened Substack and the clarity of my purpose. Transition to the translation of the Bahasa Indonesia phrase “jalan jalan” [to wander, to travel, to walk, and more]. Share the connection between jalan jalan and my heritage, life, existence. Offer myself to you [personal narrative, a splatter of memories] so you feel the connection, my interiority on the page. Then I’d bring you back to the present, to this newsletter and what you could expect as a reader. You hit subscribe. [insert subscribe button below].
I’m making fun of myself as a writer because that is what I do (I write, too). You can read my personal essays here, and one day you can read my memoir project (healing is about time and space, okay!!).
Back to the story I don’t have for you.
I’ve been waiting for a dazzling idea, my first post. That is how I operate - perfection in my spine, ready to be my best. This standard isn’t sustainable. I’d encourage any friend with a similar thought to be gentle with themselves. I’m working on offering the same to myself.
So…let’s see where this Substack goes? Maybe I’ll write the story I outlined above, or maybe I’ll write something else. The theme is jalan jalan, and one day this will all make sense.
Let’s be together here,
-Tiff
